I’ll be pumping up a car tire with a bicycle pump today, notice the driver side rear a little low.

but there’s clearly a tube in it. what kind of sealant was that?

I can’t remember why I needed a tube in there, but it was normally sealed with stans as tubeless.

that’s incredible! looks like some older formulas of stan’s used ammonia to keep the latex liquified, this tends to eat through rims pretty badly. supposedly it’s since changed, but i’m glad i use orange.

I have switched to Orange Seal and have never had any issues. The stans had ammonia in the mix and that was the corrosive aspect.

Well I guess you could patch it...
A couple years ago I had new tires and tubes on for two days before something cut a ~ 1.5cm slice across my puncture resistant tire and through the tube. I was not impressed.

Yeah that sucks
I could have patched it.... But I just carried it to a shop on my home and said fuck this shit and paid them to fix it for me....and check if the rim survived.... All fixed now.... Sometimes it's just worth the money to not deal with shit

Have you ever tried ties with a reinforced casing? The screw was probably put there by someone with bad intentions but i use a heavy duty tire for my mountain bikes and have not had a flat in years. Specialized “grid” casing or Maxis DH casing come to mind. Kind of expensive and heavy but you don’t have a car so why not spend car money on a bicycle.

There is no tire out there that is going to prevent a puncture from something like a screw or nail.

somehow...no.. walked it to a bike shop on my way home and paid them to fix it and check the rim
i guess coz it went in so perfectly fucking straight and centered i got away with it (i also didnt waste anytime getting off the bike and carried it to the shop)

That’s amazing! You’re fortunate it didn’t punch right through. It prob ably punctured both sides of the tube.

CalzoneGolem

Oh yeah if it landed in the spoke crown or whatever it’s called that’d keep it from punching thr ough .
